The numerous CSI initiatives which TWP Projects has embarked on support and advance company values and objectives and make a sustainable difference. These include enhancing employee relationships, contributing to skills development relevant to our industry and promoting safety.

To encourage students to pursue a career in engineering, Jabulani and Altmont Technical High Schools in Soweto recently received 50 sets of technical drawing equipment and stationery for its Grade 10 students and TWP will accept applications to the company’s Drawing Office Training Centre from matriculants with maths and technical drawing as part of their final year subjects. Jabulani and Altmont also received 25 PCs and both schools participated in TWP’s ‘Good Sight + Good Hearing = Good Safety’ campaign, which involved testing learners’ sight and hearing and providing those in need with spectacles and hearing aids. Pupils that have participated in this campaign are already achieving improved school marks. TWP’s objective is to focus on boosting academic results at technical schools to ensure a sustainable influx of technically competent young people into the industry.

TWP has also funded a full bursary for an HSDA Quantity Surveying student at Wits University. Since competence in mathematics is critical for entry into the engineering field, we are also providing financial assistance to The Maths Centre in support of two early development centres in Alexandra and Soweto. In addition to this, TWP has invested over R700 000 in Small Enterprise Development and has engaged an organisation that provides personalised development courses to support sustainable entrepreneurial ventures. The company is also involved in various other charities. The Princess Alice Adoption Home in Parktown, which looks after abandoned babies of up to two years of age awaiting adoption, has been TWP’s staff’s charity of choice for many years.

TWP continues to support the home with regular donations from staff fundraising and the collection of toys, clothes, formula and other essentials. TWP’s civil engineering department has been involved with the construction of Nkosi’s Haven Village, a safe house for mothers and children who are HIV positive. TWP Rustenburg staff raise funds and recruit donators for the Abraham Kriel Children’s Home in Nylstroom, and the company recently donated 50 drawstring bags filled with stationery to the home. In 2008, TWP employees raised money to purchase TB masks for the Madwaleni Hospital. All staff working in the TB wards at the hospital received masks, and enough funds were raised to purchase food and other essentials for staff and patients. TWP employees also raised R10 650 in four days in support of Lucia’s Vegetable Garden Campaign, which aims to raise funds for rural patients of the Madwaleni Hospital to enable them to establish their own vegetable gardens to generate an income.
